Idaho Falls MMA - Mixed Martial Arts

What is MMA? It stands for Mixed Martial Arts and it's one of the nations fastest growing sports and Idaho Falls is bursting with new and experienced MMA fighters. SE Idaho has some of the best fighters in the Pacific Northwest.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a sport allowing full contact, the fighters are in full combat mode allowing them to utilize their martial arts skill and toughness to beat their opponent in the ring or cage. Striking, grappling, wrestling, and more can be used as a sole weapon of choice or combined striking power to their advantage.

MMA fighting cage

The fighting takes place within a cage type arena. Similar to boxing, but without the ropes to escape. Once you're in the cage, you're leaving a winner or defeated. Two fighters are in the fighting cage along with one referee.

Usually the fights are split into 3-5 five minute rounds. The length and number of rounds vary depending on the venue. Championship bouts or fights that are deciding a belt, will usually be longer in nature allowing both competitors to show their toughness and stamina during the longer fight.

A winner is declared after a knockout, submission, or a decision by the judges after the bout has went the entire length of all scheduled rounds.

Combining Mixed Martial Arts

The concept of combining the elements of multiple martial arts was brought to the United States with the arrival of Bruce Lee. His working style, or philosophy is called Jeet Kune Do meaning "the best fighter is not a Boxer, Karate or Judo man.

The best fighter is someone who can adapt to any style." His innovative concepts were recognized by UFC President Dana White when he said Bruce Lee the "father of mixed martial arts." Recognition of its effectiveness as a test came as the United States Army began to sanction mixed martial arts with the first annual Army Combatives Championships held by the US Army Combatives School in November 2005. From there, the MMA has just exploded within the North American arena, and abroad.
